Problems We’re Facing
Burnout & Understaffing
Nurses are overworked, underpaid, and stretched to the breaking point, leading to unsafe patient care conditions and forcing some to abandon careers they love.
Nonprofit Hospitals Profiting Off Patients
Many “nonprofit” hospitals operate like corporations—raking in massive profits while cutting essential services and failing to provide meaningful charity care.
Hospital systems and insurers have taken over the American healthcare system and have become too influential in patient care. As frontline providers, many nurses have experienced the increased influence these corporate giants have over their ability to provide the best care possible for their patients. It’s time that frontline providers and patients regain control over healthcare.
Government Program Abuses
Some hospitals exploit federal government programs, like the 340B Safety-Net Drug Program, which provides significant discounts on outpatient prescription drugs—provided by the manufacturers—to certain hospitals and healthcare organizations. Unfortunately, some hospitals are pocketing these savings, instead of passing those benefits on to the patients, investing in improving care in underserved communities, or protecting uninsured patients. This is a problem that concerns nurses across America. When hospitals prioritize profits over patient needs, this leads to insufficient resources, vulnerable patients, and a lack of transparency in how these federal discounts are being used.
Patient Abuse & Neglect
Our healthcare system is failing patients and frontline workers by prioritizing profits over care—leading to unsafe working conditions, unethical financial practices, and harmful patient outcomes.
