Jennifer P.Retired nurse in Delaware

“I worked telemetry unit and responded to pull to the ED. Assignment was inpatients awaiting a bed. I was already nervous as I never had any training or introduction. With 4 hours left in my shift I thought what could go wrong. I received minimal report, no H/P to look at. I go into my first patient room—bipap with resp at the bedside saying this patient needs to be intubated. The second patient needed to get to the OR to have their gallbladder removed. Third patient Acute MI – initiate heparin drip. The fourth patient had low hemoglobin and needed a blood transfusion. No one was around to help, and I was running from room to room praying that everyone would get the care they needed.
